Plasma Pen Skin Tag Removal - Before and After
What is a Skin Tag?
Generally speaking skin tags are harmless making them a great candidate for Plasma Pen Treatment. They are a benign (non-cancerous) growth formed by grouped collagen and blood vessels that are trapped within the skin. Typically they are skin coloured and are rounded or cylindrical in shape. Over time they can turn brown and reddish in colour.
Commonly found in folds and creases in the skin, particularly where there is friction. Common areas include:
- neck;
- groin;
- armpits;
- eyelids;
- breasts;
- face.
Despite not representing a health risk, studies have shown them to be associated with metabolic deficiencies such as Type 2 Diabetes.
Therefore, men and women can develop them and they are more common in adults who suffer from hormonal changes (such as pregnancy).
Do Skin Tags need to be removed?
In short, no, skin tags don’t need to be removed. Although, most people who want to remove a skin tag do it for one of the following reasons:
- Cosmetic / Aesthetic (usually due to being in a visually unpleasing location);
- Irritation / discomfort (usually due to being in an awkward location like a skin fold or where a strap or a piece of clothing or accessory is constantly rubbing or causing friction).
How are Skin Tags removed?
Firstly, book a consultation to make sure everything is OK and that there are no contra indications to moving forward with the treatment. Once the green light has been given it’s a matter of choosing a method.
The most common ways to date are:
- Excision (surgical scissors or scalpel);
- Cryosurgery (liquid nitrogen);
- Cauterisation (electrolysis).
